MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE WRITING ASSOCIATION
The Mississippi Community College Creative Writing Association supports student writers at the community college level. With 45 years of service to students, the association hosts an annual competition where students from all of Mississippi’s public community colleges compete in several literary categories. To celebrate the winners, the association also organizes a rotating conference, during which local authors speak about their passion and inspire students in their literary pursuits.
Mission Statement
To identify and to develop literary talents and interests in Mississippi public community colleges, to promote the operation of local competitions, to encourage the publication of local literary journals, and to provide critical evaluation of student writing through both a statewide competition and a statewide conference.
Competition
Each year the competition is open to students attending any Mississippi public community/junior college. There are six categories: Creative Nonfiction, Dramatic Writing, Essay, Poetry, Short Story, and Literary Magazine. Entries must be unpublished except for campus publications. Each college branch submits two entries in each category. Then, judges specializing in each category pick their winners. Winners are honored at a yearly rotating conference.
